Part 1 Meeting Miraitowa: The Tokyo 2020 Olympic Games Mascot

The Olympics' mascots have a tradition of bringing honor and luck to the Games. Every season, a mascot is chosen to represent the host country and its culture and traditions. This year, for the Tokyo 2020 Olympic Games, the official mascot goes by the name of “Miraitowa."

The name has been derived from two words, "Mirai," meaning future, and "Towa," meaning eternity in Japanese. It is a symbol of hope and optimism for the Japanese people, implying that the Tokyo Games will bring eternal hope for people across the globe. The inspiration behind Miraitowa’s personality is the Japanese proverb: “Learn from the past and develop new ideas.”

But there is more to Miraitowa’s personality. Miraitowa is described as being cheerful with a high sense of integrity. Our mascot is also strongly determined about athletics. It also has a special power: Teleportation! Miraitowa can go anywhere it wishes, in an instant. How cool and unfair that is at the same time?
